Ethel was referred ot me by another client. I installed vinyl floating floor on her stairs and whole first floor. She loves it.
How long does it take to insall LVP floors in a typical home?
For an experienced installer, it takes about a half a day to a full day to install about 300 square feet. Each plank is carefully placed and secured. It all depends on the condition of the existing floors, whether we need to remove flooring first, and how level the current floors are.
These are the factors that affect the install time:
Subfloor preparation
The subfloor needs to be clean, level, and dry before beginning the installation. I’ve had to repair subfloors with some installation jobs before begining the install.
Complexity of the room
When we evaluate your room we look to see how complex it is. A large square is a lot easier for installation than a room with a bay window, and many corners to hallways with doors. We need to make intricate cuts around doorways, corners, or other obstacles for a proper fit in the installtion process
DIY VS Professional Installer
Because we’ve installed so many LVP floor jobs, we have the experience to do it a lot faster. This is a job a homeowner can tackle on their own, but given the cost and speed, many prefer to hire a professional to install their LVP flooring projects. Just know, if you plan to install your LVP floors yourself, let them get acclimated inside for a few days before attempting the install process. They need to get adjusted to the humidity and temperature levels in your home first.
To install LVP floors correctly, it is important to stagger the seams by offsetting the end joints by a random amount. This is usually 6-8 inches. The helps to avoid that bad “H” pattern where the seams from the adjacent rows line up. YOu want to stagger the installation because it makes your floors stronger, and it’s more visually appealing.
How to stagger LVP Seams:
Every job always begins with planning.
Plan your layout
Measure the room. Look at any adjacent rooms to decide which direction the planks will run, vertical or horizontal.
Mix Planks
Take planks from different boxes so you have a random mix of patterns and colors. This will enhance a natural look.
Start the first row
Lay the first full plank
Start the second row
Use the offcut piece from the end of the first row to start your second row.
Ensure Proper Offset
Make sure the end joint of the new plank is at least 6-8” away from the nearest end joint in the previous row.
Avoid “H” patterns
To prevent three planks forming an H shape, do not place the starting piece of a row exactly in the middle of the plank below it.
Continue the stagger
For the third row start with a new full plank. Cut it to a random length. Make sure the joint is fully offset from the previous rows.
Use your off cuts wisely
Avoid using the same offcut multiple times or you will get a repeating pattern.
How much does it cost to hire me to install your luxury vinyl plank floors?
Not as much as you think. Smaller projects were priced at $450 for labor, and larger projects cost about $1,000.00 in labor costs. Luxury vinyl plank is an affordable way to modernize your home and make it look beautiful.
